Demand for hairdressers in Tasmania continues to be very strong and the overwhelming calls received by Hair & Beauty Tasmania is ‘do you know of anyone looking for work’.
To try and alleviate the pressure on local salons, Hair & Beauty Tasmania is displaying at the nation’s biggest hairdressing event, Hair Expo, in Melbourne this long weekend. The Expo will be open from 10am Saturday until 4pm on Monday.
The stand, Work in Tasmania, is a pitch to encourage hairdressers from around the country to relocate to Tasmania with their families to work and live in the country’s fastest growing economy with the nicest people and the cleanest environment.
It is expected that between 30,000 and 50,000 people from across Australia will visit the Expo and will pass by the stand.
Hair & Beauty Tasmania has recently developed a ‘jobs board’ on its organisational website to encourage salon owners who have a vacancy to advertise for free. It allows both employers and employees the opportunity to either post a job or post their availability on their industry dedicated web page.
Positions for qualified hairdressers has always been strong and numbers of apprentices at TasTafe have been consistent however short retention times in the industry provide a constant need for qualified hairdressers.
The event has been supported by the Tasmanian Government as part of the Population Growth Strategy and is the first to be fully delivered by the small grants program announced by the Treasurer and Minister for State Growth Hon Peter Gutwein prior to the election.
